Wine of the Month

Memorial weekend is always a big deal for my friends and family. We usually head over to the coast for a weekend of sports, hiking, fishing and anything else that's outdoors. Oh sure, eventually we wind up inside, but only for as long as it takes to get a few things prepped for the grill. In keeping with tradition, everybody brings a mess of good wine. This year, my contirbution will be a few bottles of Three Coins 2006 Knight's Valley Syrah. I'd like to bring more, but I'm not sure I want to share.

I first paired the '06 Three Coins Syrah with peppery marinated elk steaks topped with sauteed rosemary mushrooms. You know, it makes me sad to think that there are people out there who end up drinking bad wine with great food. A sip of Three Coins Syrah, a bit of spicy elk and you really appreciate the fuss about pairing wines with food. This was a perfect match for me.

I've since enjoyed the Three Coins Syrah with a number of different antlered game and waterfowl dishes and, as Donny says, "that dog will hunt until there's not another bird left in the state!" I know, you're skeptical, so don't take my word for it. This syrah just received a Double Gold at the 2009 Jerry Meads New World International Wine Competition. Congrats to Three Coins!

As of this writing, we're still a few weeks away from the Memorial weekend trip. I just checked my inventory and it looks like I may need to order some more Three Coins Syrah. You can do the same right HERE.
